We have discussed the use of images in your beginners blog and stressed that you use images that you have a legal right to use. Today I would like to offer some image tips for your beginners blog. Some beginners may not know how to place an image in their blog so let’s talk about that a little.
I have used both WordPress and Blogger for blogs for several years and both are pretty simple to add images on. It depends on whether you are using an image that is your own and that you have on your hard drive or you are going to use a link to an image from another site. If the image is on your computer’s hard drive (your own picture or one you have downloaded), both platforms have a button to click on to upload the image. You can select whether you want the image to be on the left of your content, the right, or centered. Pretty easy. These images are not clickable as you aren’t using them to send your reader to another site. They are static and just enhance your content.
Other times you will want to add an image that is from an affiliate site with a product image. How do you do that? Through the use of html you can add an image along with a text link that will take the reader to the page where they can purchase the product you have written about. These images can be clickable or static, depending on how you code them.
An example of the first technique with an uploaded image can be seen on one of my latest blog posts: Native American Totems In Art By Kirby Sattler. I uploaded an image, centered it, and then created a text link below it using html. I wanted to direct my readers to the website of Mr. Sattler after showing one of his paintings. The image is not clickable but the link below it is. (By the way, I first contacted the artist and asked his permission to use the image!)
You might feel a little intimidated to use html for your image and linking. Don’t be afraid to try this method because you think you have to become a programmer to understand it. The code is pretty basic and once you have done it a couple of times you will feel more comfortable with it. Many places actually have the code already done for you and all you have to do is copy and paste it into your post. There are several ways to accomplish adding image links into your beginners blog, with each one creating a different look. AJ recently wrote some helpful instructions for this very purpose: Make An Image Clickable. Her directions are easy to follow and will give you some awesome results.
