Content Marketing A Hot Topic

As you start your beginners blog, it is important to keep abreast of new trends or new ways to do things. I have been reading about “content marketing” of late and I think this is something that both new bloggers and old bloggers should start to think about more. With search engines like Google changing their algorithms to get rid of the junk your content has become even more important.

Actually, your content has always been important but many lost sight of that. Content marketing is being embraced by the “big boys” as a strategy of branding and advertising. Who are the big boys? Oh, you might be surprised! Have you noticed that you don’t see as many advertisements on your television by Coca Cola? There is a strategic reason for that. The company is leading a growing number of other businesses in creating unique content on the internet that not only advertises their product but creates a brand recognition and interest. Why? Well, by having unique and engaging articles, blogs, videos and images that people can share on social networks a new buzz is created.

It has been estimated that something like 90% of businesses are using some form of content marketing this year as a part of their advertising strategy. Many businesses are spending at least 25% of their budgets marketing their brands through unique and engaging content. They will be trying to create content that is so captivating that people will feel compelled to share it. Their content will also be relevant to a customer’s interests, the brand itself, and the objectives of the company.

What does this have to do with your beginners blog? I think it could make the difference between a mediocre product and a successful venture. If you use some of the content marketing strategies while creating your content for your blog, you are creating the potential for a better income and at least a situation where people are interested in reading and sharing your ideas and posts. Keep it interesting, make it engaging, write it so that people will want to share it with their friends. Gone are the days that you can get by with wimpy and lame content. It is time to step up to the plate and hit some home run, game winning content that fits your brand (you and your ideas) that people will love reading. Be yourself and write it online.

I love what you say Bev about “Gone are the days that you can get by with wimpy and lame content”. The internet is evolving at a very fast pace. It was only a couple of years ago that we were being told to create micro-niche blogs and that only 10 posts should be enough to gain authority with the Search Engines. Nowadays we know that this will definitely not work.

Branding has always been a marketing tool, and content marketing is just a new way to brand your product, keeping your brand in the forefront of people’s minds by connecting it to things they care about. Social networking is a perfect venue for this.

One good example is American Express. They have really been pushing their support of small businesses, by their promotional Small Business Saturday. What they don’t say is that this encourages small businesses to use their card processing, and customers to spend more on their Amex card. But the concept is a solid one because Americans want to support small businesses, especially local ones.
