A few weeks back I wrote about Why I am not Pinterested. Since then Pinterest have altered their Terms and Conditions and addressed some of the issues that many people had about the use of our images. But personally, I think they have a long way to go to deal with the Copyright issues. And I am not holding my breath, because I don’t think it will ever be resolved.
In the meantime, I wrote to Amazon about the fact that many Amazon Associates who pin and repin Amazon Product Images are breaking the Amazon Terms of Service, that require all images to link directly to the Amazon Product page. This is the response:
“I’m so sorry for the long delay in getting back to you about repinning on Pinterest.
I’m still researching to find out what the exact policy is for people that repin. It’s quite possible if they are an Associate that their accounts could be closed, however I really want to ensure that I have concrete information to give you. I will continue to research and as soon as I have any additional information I will notify you via email.”
So, my assumption that Pinning and Re-Pinning Amazon Images violates Amazon TOS, UNLESS the image links to the product page is correct. However, it remains to be seen if Amazon are going to make a stand about this or if they decide to allow it.
I will let you know when I get a definitive answer.
